Something newer.

What is it?

  1. Well,

It's got a twin 114 mm gun mount and what appear to be a set of Exocet box launchers forward. Also, it has a twin helo hanger (I played with the brightness and contrast of the pic to be able to see the hanger doors). It would appear to be of British origin.

  2. It's the former County class destroyer HMS Fife (D20) in service with the Chilean Navy as Blanco Encalada during Exercise TEAMWORK SOUTH '99. Her Sea Slug SAM launcher has been replaced by an extension of the helo flight deck.

  3. Hello D.E.Reddick,

    it is indeed.
    An interesting conversion.
The Counties were decent sized ships, unlike subsequent classes of British frigates and destroyers.

One survived an Exocet hit, another took a 1,000lb bomb.

I am hoping the future Type 26 will be no smaller than the Counties.

  5. Hello Anonymous,

    blame Chuck Hill!

I had to resort to the Uzbek navy to catch him out.
