Weapon Spotting

This is the first in an occasional series.

What is it?

Well,

The shoulder patch of the soldier carrying this item seems to be unreadable.

Then the weapon appears to be a grenade launcher (30 to 40 mm). There is what appears to be a carrying handle. But there aren't any visible sights. So, perhaps a prototype, as it certainly isn't the six-round revolver grenade launcher developed by South Africa and in use with the USMC.

Hello D.E.Reddick,

it is not a prototype.
This is an operational weapon.
